Welton Village
Welton Village green having refreshments from the Green Dragon

Pictured on the green opposite the Green Dragon having a light refreshment.

Welton is one of the prettiest villages in East Yorkshire with lots of lovely features such as the beck that runs right through the heart of the village.

The Green Dragon public house is in the centre which is famous for the fact that the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin was nearly captured here. He escaped through a small window and fled into the night on the back of his horse Black Beauty.

Opposite the Green Dragon is the village green, in the middle of which is the Fountain, which has long since ceased to discharge water but is a very interesting piece of listed architecture. There is an inscription round this perpendicular fountain which reads 'In memory of Anne Popple AD 1874 "I will give a vow God that if you have a thirst of the fountain of the water of life, drink freely".' Across one corner of the green is a wooden seat donated to the village by the WI. The green itself was once surrounded by heavy black chains but these were removed for the war effort in the Second World War.

The pearl in the crown of the village must be the beautiful St Helen's church standing in the middle of the village, with the lovely mill dam and shallow beck flowing by its side, its ducks swimming lazily around just waiting to be fed by the numerous visitors to Welton.

Brantingham Village

Brantingham is a picturesque hamlet village only a 30 minute ride away from the yard.

Brantingham has The Triton Inn public house and a small village post office/shop. In the centre is a very pretty pond and village green, the road out the back of Brantingham leads you up Brantingham Dale which is one of the most beautiful rides.
